Dr. Brent Johnson
Dr. Johnson grew up on a farm in southern Ontario. He credits his interpersonal skills and compassion for patient welfare to the values he acquired from his parents and neighbours within this rural community.
Dr. Johnson completed his specialty training in oral and maxillofacial surgery in 1988 and has been in private practice in Ottawa since that time. He continues to update his skills and knowledge through regular attendance at specialty specific scientific meetings and courses. Dr. Johnson is a member of the medical staff of the Ottawa Hospital and operates at the Civic, General and Riverside hospital sites as well as Carleton Place and District Memorial Hospital.
Dr. Johnson is licensed by the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario with a General and Specialty certificate for oral and maxillofacial surgery. He is a member of the Canadian Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, Ontario Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, Canadian Dental Society of Anesthesiology, Canadian Dental Association, Ontario Dental Association, and Ottawa Dental Society.
Dr. Johnson is a past president of the Ottawa Dental Society and served six years as a governor to the Ontario Dental Association. He has been affiliated with the medical staff of the NHL Ottawa Senators hockey team since their inception in 1993. Dr. Johnson shares emergency call coverage for the Ottawa Hospital and joins his colleagues in donating his services to the Civic Hospital’s Adult Dental Clinic.
Dr. Johnson attended Trinity College at the University of Toronto and was accepted into the Faculty of Dentistry after completing two years towards his Bachelor of Science degree. In 1984 he was awarded his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Toronto and over the next year went on to complete a General Practice Residency in Hospital Dentistry at Toronto’s Mount Sinai Hospital. From 1985 to 1988, Dr. Johnson trained in Winnipeg at the affiliated hospitals of the Manitoba Health Sciences Centre and Faculty of Dentistry. During this time, he successfully completed his Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency program with the Department of Medicine and was awarded his Diploma in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery from the University of Manitoba.
Dr. Johnson is married and the proud father of 3 sons and 2 step-daughters. He has coached numerous minor hockey and soccer teams and continues to stay physically active through exercise. His leisure pursuits include travel, non-contact hockey, skiing, running, cycling, and kayaking.
